The Foyer Federation exist to harness the talent and potential of young people. The Foyer model was developed as a radical response to high levels of youth unemployment and growing youth homelessness, by providing housing with a new standard of support, called Advantaged Thinking. The grounding principle of Advantaged Thinking is “working with young people through their abilities rather than disadvantaging them as liabilities”.
Foyers’ future strategy is to unify and elevate the Advantaged Thinking model in order to scale their impact, create a movement and generate income beyond the current Foyer network and grow in the youth sector. This will be delivered through the creation of a new accessible Advantaged Thinking brand and new digital home at www.advantagedthinking.com. The website will;

The logic

(Topline practical thinking/tech) With the budget in mind, for the website we have suggested a process that involves the approval of key pages as well as the components that will be used to construct the remaining pages. This bypasses the cost of creating design mock-ups of each page of the site. In terms of brand, we believe the minimum that we would need to create a great website for Advantaged Thinking are a logo and the key design style/elements for the site, including fonts and colour palette.

Project process: from inception to post-launch

So, how is this all going to come together? We are focussed on ensuring the best outcome, reducing risks and issues through open collaboration, continual iteration and co-creation. Context and insight

For us to perform at our optimum we rapidly immerse ourselves in your world to understand where you are, together with your ambitions to allow us to shape our approach to the project.

Knowing you have undertaken extensive research and idea formation in relation to the print resource we aim to do this through a combination of background documentation that can be shared for review and a 1 day face-to-face workshop to enable:

Phase 1: Discovery and design principles

User Profiles Development of user profiles focusing on needs and tasks as well as emotions to help form and shape the solution.

Prototyping Development of early conceptual wireframes (low fidelity) and continual refinement into a high fidelity solution that will be taken into the next phase.

Design Principles & Experimentation Development of design principles from look and feel, brand integration and experimentation of how we will deliver the digital resource. This will include experimenting with concepts and exploration of creative design.

User Testing Early testing of the wireframes at low fidelity stage and then also at high fidelity to ensure the solution will meet the requirement.

Solution Design Definition of the site structure (Information Architecture), prioritised user stories and agreed approach to design and build. Including refined estimates for delivery.

Phase 2: Design and build

Once the discovery has been completed and agreed through sign off of the solution design we will commence the design and build of the solution.
Delivering in 2 week iterations and continually releasing and testing through weekly and fortnightly reviews.

Once the solution is ready, we will make it available for testing as part of a private beta before full release.

Phase 3: Launch and warranty

Once fully tested we will launch the solution live. Once live we will support the release with the full project team on hand for a period of 3-4 weeks (we will agree this as part of the delivery depending on the release approach). During this period, the project team will be on hand to support should there be any issues. Following the completion of warranty we will hand over the solution to support.

User testing

As part of our approach, we are proposing 3 rounds of user testing: 2 x Agile testing during discovery and a full round of testing post release.

The Agile aspect here refers to the quick turnaround. We test a few participants in the morning, whilst the project team watches remotely. The afternoon is then spent reviewing the findings and agreeing changes. This allows us to work quickly to improve the prototype and ensure we haven’t missed anything for the target audience. We would recommend a round of testing at the prototype stage and the design stage before going into build.

We would also recommend another round of testing post go live as at this point all the elements will have come together, such as videos, 3D graphics and full functionality of the site to ensure we have created the best user experience. This would also give us the opportunity to see if there is any future developments which users may need or require.

We encourage the project team to get involved with the user testing with the option to observe the testing or watch the recordings from the testing.

Ongoing support and continual improvement

Hosting We offer a fully managed solution on Umbraco hosted on Azure and offering full SLA and uptime of 99.9% charged at £169 a month on a standard plan (see full details here.)

Support Retainer To ensure the solution can continue to be improved we offer a retained support package that can be used to proactively and reactively support the solution as well as be used for development.

We would recommend a 1.5 hours a month / 6 hours a quarter, averaged over a 12 month period.

Break fix Support

We can offer a break fix service if preferred however we find these to not be as valuable. An annual break fix would be £1,120.

Our not for profit rate is £700 per day + VAT and expenses. We are confident we can deliver within your budget. We seek at all stages to fix the price of the delivery once the approach has been agreed. Based on your requirements we have estimated bandings for each of the phases.
